Ways To Relax Your Mind And Body

The benefits of oil to all skin types are what make oils pure beauty magic.   Oils, I mean natural oils, are now on the front rows of beauty shelves.  This is a revolution sweeping the beauty and health world.  And it’s one all women over 40 years should know about. Natural plant oils are great for dry skin and work well on wrinkles.  Plus, the fact that they are healthy too.

Oils are concentrated and refined from the plant.  They are about 80% more potent than herbal powders.  They penetrate your skin deeper, giving you better effects 70% better than oral herbs.  Oils nourish the tissue and stimulate new cell growth.  They also contain 100% natural anti-bacterial, antiseptic, and antifungal properties. All these good things work together to keep your skin healthy and beautiful.

Oils are ancient beauty aids. From Cleopatra, women rubbed their bodies with oils to keep them supple and silky smooth.  And in the Bible, Mary Magdalene rubbed Jesus’s feet with oil, while there is also a mention of cassia oil, extracted from cinnamon bark, then mixed with olive oil and used after bathing to keep skin supple and sweetly perfumed.

We show you how to unlock the benefits of oils to all skin types so you can look and feel radiantly beautiful.

Oils Are 100% Natural

The benefits of oil to all skin types are plausible because oils are 100% natural.  No additives or chemicals can harm sensitive skin.  Or make dry skin drier, or increase the oiliness of oily skin.

Oils are good for mature skin, whether on your face or body.  Plant nourishment from oils can stimulate cell repair and renewal.  While the oils themselves act as an invisible barrier, preventing moisture loss. Some modern moisturisers are cocktails of synthetic chemicals and preservatives. But oils are kind because they are naturally pure.  This means nothing is added, nothing is taken out.

Oils Are Not Greasy!

By using oils on your face and body, your skin will look shiny.  And because your skin absorbs oil quickly, this means their ingredients and nutrients work faster. How do you use oils? Well, if your daily beauty routine involves makeup, skip oils to prevent a greasy base for your foundation.  Keep oils for nighttime use.

And If you use body oil, give your skin a chance to soak it up before wearing your clothes.  In addition, oils are light enough to work under your normal moisturiser, though you only need to use a little more than normal.  Fragrance-free and oil-free moisturisers are also much better.

How To Use Oils

On your face

Cleansing: Use oil to gently cleanse and cut through surface grime and stale makeup, without stripping the skin. In particular, for sensitive skin or acne-prone skin, it is a useful way to remove dead cells without disturbing the ph balance of the skin. So just apply a light film all over your neck and face, including your eyelids.  Rub the oil in gently, using the pads of your fingers.  Leave it for a minute, and then remove it with a damp cloth.  Oils that cleanse perfectly include almonds, sunflower, and olive.

Moisturising: Use oil as you would your regular moisturiser with the pad of your fingers, in gentle upward strokes, over your chest, neck, and face. Try to be extra gentle with the eye area. And do not drag the skin or rub it in. Simply tap gently until it is absorbed. Neutrogena and olive oils are good for treating sunburnt skin or on their own as moisturisers.  The kitchen olive oil is known as ‘the king of oils’. And recently I find that Shea Moisture 100% Virgin Coconut Oil is a good non-greasy daily hydration overnight face oil.  Great also for the neck area.

Fighting Ageing: Spare a little time at night to combine a little lymph drainage massage while applying your night face oil. This will leave your skin looking radiant and firmer too. Simply put a few drops of your oil onto the pads of your fingers, and gently apply pressure to your lymph drainage points.

Also apply along your brow bone, cheekbones, and jaw, and in the grove above your Cupid’s bow.  On each area, press into your skin firmly, hold for 10 to 15 seconds, and then release.  Try Clarins aromatherapy facial oils for anti-ageing. Another to try is Elizabeth Arden Ceramide Time Complex capsules. These are intensive anti-ageing vitamin E oil that regenerates and nourishes while you sleep.

On Your Body

Moisturising: Apply the oils slightly on your palms and then pat and press it gently into your skin.  Don’t use as much as you would an ordinary moisturiser.  For a relaxing soothing bath, add five drops of your favourite oil to your bathwater. Relax for ten minutes to allow the oils to work their magic.  Use a soft towel to pat yourself dry.

Apply your oil just after bathing, as clean and warm skin will just soak up the oil. Another oil to try is virgin coconut oil.  Although coconut is often ignored for being a ‘bad fat, coconut oil is fast becoming recognised as a valuable tool in the war against immune diseases.

Also great for mature drier skin, and soothing, are avocado and wheatgerm oil.  Both are known for their power to heal scar tissue and restore silkiness to mature complexions. These two oils especially encourage cell renewal and improve skin suppleness.  Jojoba oil is quite pricey but effective for oily or sensitive skin.

Firming & Fighting cellulite: You can be vigorous here.  Apply the oil onto damp skin in firm upward strokes, towards the heart.  The goal is to stimulate circulation, disperse fatty deposits, and encourage the drainage of excess fluid and waste via the lymph. Try E’SPA Detoxifying Body Oil, a mixture of lemon, grapefruit, eucalyptus, and cypress.  It is highly invigorating and great for fighting cellulite.  Massage into damp skin in upward strokes towards the heart.

On Your Diet

Enriching Your Diet: The benefits of oil to all skin types are not restricted to external use.  Natural oils also have numerous health benefits too when taken orally. Our bodies need oils.  Very low-fat diets suck the oils out of your skin, making a 30-year-old look like a prune.  Our bodies need to be oiled and the trick is to eat the right ones, like essential fatty acids (EFA’s).  This is because they actually form a barrier on the skin against loss of moisture.  As well as the fine lines and wrinkles that come from dryness will diminish.

EFAs help keep your skin moist, elastic, and strong.  Unfortunately, the body cannot manufacture EFA’s, so it is essential they come from your diet.  Omega 6 and Omega 3 play such a vital role and we need to balance them – one-third Omega- 6, two-thirds omega-3. Omega-6s are often found in fried foods.  But most of us really need to increase our intake of Omega-3 to keep our skin, heart, and joints healthy.  A good source is oily fish and walnuts. Also, eat more flaxseeds sprinkled on your cereals which are available in good health food stores. Cod liver oil supplements are also great.
